It’s a challenge keeping your space safe for the littles and well-styled for you. Here are a few easy tips that we have employed to tweak our designs and adjusted a room to keep everyone happy.
1 / Baskets, Bins and Bags
Create a catch-all for toys and books in each room. Baskets are the perfect solution because they can be carried around on your clean-up and are a quick solution for tidying a space after bedtime. Just to be clear, we are not talking bright plastic toy bins here. Find a few styles that both blend in with your decor and are easily accessible for little hands so that they know where their toys are and can grab them on their own. These ones were a perfect fit for our home, and the fabric liners are great to keep toys from catching inside. Bonus points for price as well because I’m sure at some point they will become an integral part of a fort or castle.
2 / Baby-Safe Art
Although some items do need to be moved to higher shelves or closed cabinets, it can also look strange to see a clear line around a room – about three feet up from the floor – void of any and all decor. Use some of your less precious frames to fill in those gaps by displaying art behind a piece of plexi. Grab some clear plastic or plexiglass from the craft store and swap out the glass to create a break-proof solution that no one will notice.
3 / Matte Your Metallics
Fingerprints everywhere! Sourcing and layering in matte metallics instead of mirrored or polished finishes will keep your space looking grown up and on-trend without creating a constant cleaning project. This table is a great example, and is currently on the job in our nursery.
